About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
WHO WE ARE
Christian Family Theater is a group of leaders in the Chattanooga and surrounding areas who desire to see an ongoing family theater program conducted in a safe wholesome environment.
WHAT WE DO
CFT offers families opportunities to learn about theater and take part in local shows in a loving safe environment.
Our desire is to see children, youth and adults succeed and reap the benefits of becoming part of a cast that produces something as a group that could never be accomplished as an individual.
We want to instill a love of theatre in a new generation and help prepare them to go on to other theatre opportunities in our area.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Make sure you are on our email list. We will send out notifications of upcoming classes, auditions and shows. We are always looking for costume makers, set builders, painters, and all sorts of helpers.
Our Story
In 1994 Leap of Faith productions began as an all inclusive community theater church ministry. They produced 1 large scale Broadway musical each summer until their final production in July 2011. In 2012 Stage Right Productions was formed as a similar theater production ministry in another area church with their first show being The Sound of Music. They soon realized that they were attracting a large number of homeschool children and young adults.
In 2013 Leap of Faith formally dissolved and passed their mantle on to Stage Right and donated all their staging, costumes and props from their previous 17 productions for Stage Right to continue that theater ministry. Over the next two years Stage Right produced two more Broadway musicals, both of which were family friendly and included many area children and youth: Seussical the Musical and The Wizard of Oz.
In fall of 2014 the church where Stage Right operated decided to no longer follow this ministry model. This left many families and children who had participated in their productions without a place to explore theater in a safe and nurturing environment.
Several key families and workers met in the Spring of 2015 to discuss the possibility of beginning a new theater company. This new production company would no longer come under the umbrella of a particular church or denomination but would stand alone using local houses of worship for rehearsal and performance space. Thus the idea for Christian Family Theater was born.
While we have worked out of many area churches and venues our current home base is our studio in the basement of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church
